Biography


“Beautiful and ethereal” (Rutland Herald), coloratura soprano Abby Brodnick captivates audiences nationwide with her “personable [and] engaging” stage presence (South Florida Classical Review). Abby’s artistry spans opera, operetta, Baroque and oratorio works, musical theater, and contemporary music. 

In 2024, Abby was a Resident Artist with Opera North and a Studio Artist with the Savannah Voice Festival, performing roles such as Eurydice in Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers—praised as “brilliantly sung with comic flair” (Rutland Herald)—Rapunzel in Into the Woods, and Mabel in Pirates of Penzance. This season, she debuts with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra in April 2025 as Dagmar in Douglas Moore’s Giants in the Earth, a production to be broadcast live on PBS. Abby also collaborates on recital programs with the Four Seasons in Music, Opera at Florham, and Montclair Music Club.

In the 2023–24 season, Abby won First Place in the Camille Coloratura Awards (Student Division). She performed soprano solos in Handel’s Messiah and Orff’s Carmina Burana. Abby’s summer festival appearances included Miami Music Festival (Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro and Susanna cover) and Savannah Voice Festival (1st Witch in Dido and Aeneas). 

Abby holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Montclair State University’s Cali School of Music, where she studied under Beth Roberts and received the 2024 Outstanding Graduate Performance Award. Her portrayal of Sister Constance in the Cali Opera production of Dialogues des Carmélites in January 2024 remains one of her most meaningful roles. Abby was a member of Cali’s Baroque Ensemble in 2024, performing a chamber recital of Handel and Bach arias with period instruments as well as participating in masterclasses with Nicholas McGegan and Kent Tritle. In December 2022 she performed as Pernille in Dan Shore’s The Beautiful Bridegroom, and in opera scenes productions has performed as Marie in Donizetti’s La fille du régiment and La Charmeuse in Massenet’s Thaïs.

During her Bachelor’s studies at DePauw University, Abby performed roles including Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, the Dew Fairy in Hänsel und Gretel. and Percy Talbott in The Spitfire Grill, among others. She also earned a minor in Musical Theater, broadening her versatility as a performer.

An avid concert and chamber performer, Abby collaborates regularly with the Four Seasons in Music series, where she recently presented versatile French repertoire by Fauré, Poulenc, and Piaf, and this season will perform Italian works. She is a returning artist with the Montclair Music Club recital series and performed the New York premiere of Thomas Parente’s Three Teasdale Songs with the New York Composers Circle.
